International Baccalaureate (IB)

  • The International Baccalaureate Programme (IB) is an internationally recognized curriculum that offers 11th and 12th grade students an opportunity to earn the IB diploma.
  • The program is offered in over 3000 schools in over 100 countries.
  • The IB program began at Lubbock High School in 1999 with the first graduating class of 2002.  That graduating class of 16 students is the largest class of all first year programs.
  • To earn the IB diploma students complete and test in 6 IB subjects, write an extended essay, complete volunteer hours, and participate in Theory of Knowledge (TOK).
  • This curriculum is specifically designed to meet the challenges of living and working in today's global, technological world.
  • IB students are truly prepared for college and beyond.



What Does The IB Program Provide?

  • The IB curriculum provides a broad based arts experience for the college-bound student.
  • Educational experiences with a well-rounded, highly academic course of study emphasizing the development of the total individual.
  • Favorable admission into universities around the world.
  • In- Depth exploration of the study of human behavior and the process of educational inquiry.
  • In state supported colleges and universities in the state of Texas, students who earn an IB diploma and score at least a 4 in all six areas will be awarded 24 hours of college credit towards their degree.

How Do I Earn The IB Diploma?

During their junior and senior years a student must complete all course requirements and demonstrate mastery in each of the following six areas of study:

  1. Language A -English
  2. Language B -A second language ( Spanish, French, Latin, German)
  3. Individuals and Societies - History (European History/World Topics, History of Americas/World Topics)
  4. Experimental Sciences ( Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
  5. Mathematics ( Pre-Cal, Calculus)
  6. Sixth Area Subject ( a second science, art, computer science, theater, music)

How Do I Apply To Be An IB Diploma Candidate?

  • A student must meet the criteria for LEAP admission which includes passing all portions of the last TAKS, an overall 3.5 GPA, and no grade below a B in the chosen LEAP course. Students who do not have the required 3.5 GPA, may go through an alternative application process, which  requires an interview, writing sample, past TAKS scores, and GPA.
