Lubbock ISD sees growth over 2009 TAKS preliminary scores

Lubbock ISD released preliminary scores for students on the 2009-10 state Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test today. The district showed growth in 85% of the 135 areas measured and double-digit gains in several areas over the preliminary scores from 2008-09.  <more information>


Orientation required for students attending Apex lab summer school
June 4, 2010
Students planning to attend Apex lab summer school at Lubbock High or Monterey must attend one of the following orientations on Monday, June 7, prior to classes beginning on Tuesday, June 8.  The orientation will only last one hour.  Transportation will not be available for orientation and students must be picked up at the end of their orientation time.
Students with last names beginning with A-F begin at 8 a.m.
Students with last names beginning with G-L begin at 9 a.m.
Students with last names beginning with M-R begin at 10 a.m.
Students with last names beginning with S-Z begin at 11 a.m.

Octathlon Teams in Top 5 at State
April 28, 2010
Academic Octathlon teams from Lubbock ISD performed well at the State Octathlon Meet in Frisco, Texas on April 24. Coronado placed fourth overall and third in Super Quiz, Lubbock High placed second overall and fifth in Super Quiz and Monterey placed third overall and second in Super Quiz.

Classes delayed due to weather

Classes in Lubbock ISD will begin two hours later than normal today.  Buses will also run two hours later.  All Lubbock ISD personnel should report as soon as safely possible.  Parents are encouraged to allow for extra travel time due to poor road conditions.

Pep Rally and Football Game Tickets

Get your pep rally tickets today- there are not too many left so you better buy your tomorrow in the Black and Gold store! All proceeds go to the Student United Way drive! The pep rally will be the last period of the day tomorrow.
Game tickets- $2 here $7 at the gate the night of the game – buy your in the Black and Gold Store! The first home game is tomorrow night at Lowrey Field. Kickoff is at 7:30. Students that depend on your parents to pick you up, please make sure your rides come at least by 9:30 so you are not just waiting around at the field.

Young Entrepreneurs of Lubbock

The Young Entrepreneurs of Lubbock (YEL) / INTERACT club is having its first meeting this Friday, September 3rd, at 12:30 in Coach Vick's room, 3005. Throughout the year, YEL / INTERACT creates and sells Spurs shirts, organizes the intramural basketball tournament and completes volunteer work. If you are interested in being a part of this group, we will see you this Friday right after school in room 3005.
Schedule Changes

This Friday, September 3, is the last day that student initiated schedule change request forms will be accepted.  There is no need to submit a schedule change because a class has too many students. The counselors are working on reducing the number of students in classes.  
WAZE DAZE
August 30, 2010
Waze Daze is scheduled for September 3 at 2:30 at Chapman field. This event is being sandwiched between the first pep rally and the first home football game. Once again hotdogs and lots of fun are planned. Tickets are $4 in advance at the Black and Gold store. However, this year you can get a shirt and a ticket for just $10 while the shirt supplies last. Tickets will be $6 at the gate of the event.

The LHS Robotics team is having a fundraiser this Saturday, September 4, at Fuddruckers. A portion of the total of all meal receipts placed in the LHS Robotics bucket at Fuddruckers on Saturday will be donated to the team to buy needed supplies for this year's "Total Recall" competition. Please support your LHS Robotics team; invite family, friends, and everyone you know to eat at Fuddruckers this Saturday!

Congratulations to LHS Assistant Principal Flo Touchstone for being named Lubbock High School Associate Principal. Mrs. Touchstone moves in to the position recently vacated by Mr. Will Burks after being named Director of Fine Arts for LISD.
PSAT Registration and Seminar
August 30, 2010
Lubbock High School will administer the PSAT to ALL 10th graders FREE of charge on Wednesday, October 13, 2010. Juniors hoping to qualify for National Merit Scholar MUST take the PSAT. Additionally, 9th graders are also encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. The cost for juniors and freshmen is only $13.

In an effort to help students improve thier PSAT/SAT scores, LHS is pleased to offer a test prep seminar on Thursday, September 30, 2010 from 8:30am-2:45pm. A sign-up table will be available in the hallway just outside the cafeteria every morning and during lunch starting Monday, September 7 for students to register. Students will NOT be dismissed out of class in order to register for the PSAT or the seminar.

One Day Only Theater

Student Senate Meeting

Student Parking
August 24, 2010
Parking registration forms are available in the main office on the front counter. Permits are limited. The cost is $45 for the year. Permits will be sold this week only or until all permits have been issued.
 
Please note the vacant lot parking at 18th and Avenue U will no longer be available. Beginning next Monday the City traffic department will be issuing tickets for any vehicle parking on those lots. The tickets will cost violators $197.
Soccer Meeting

LHS Boys Soccer is having a parent meeting Tuesday night August 31, at 7:30 in the Chapman APR.  If you are in soccer or not but interested in playing soccer in November, you and your parents must be at the meeting!!

Freshmen elections for officers and cheerleaders will be Friday September 10. Applications are available in the main office on the front counter.
Locker Assignments
August 24, 2010
Lockers will be issued only to those students that return their locker forms to Mr. Woody, have the form completely filled out front and back, and have their combination lock with them for verification. Locker assignments will be posted outside of the main office each day before noon.

You can view all LISD events within a personal calendar by doing the following:
  • Select "Calendar" from the left side navigation menu.
  • Click on "Choose Calendars to View" at the top left of the LHS Calendar
  • Click on the plus (+) sign for the schools you would like to view
  • Select any and all specified calendars for that school
  • Click on "View Chosen Calendars"

This will create a combined calendar of ALL selected athletic and school calendars chosen.
