Michael Trook, teacher and coach at Lubbock HS, was recently named a Diamond Coach by the National Forensics League (NFL). LHS Academic Decathalon Team Outsdanding in Classic Showdown!
Academic Decathlon won the Regional Meet this past weekend. The team is currently ranked 8th in Texas and will compete in Houston at the end of the month for the State title.  Honors brought home include Highest Meet Scorer, Highest Scholastic Scorer, Highest Varsity Scorer, eight first place medals including one perfect score on an exam and eight second place medals.  Nobody outshines these OUTSTANDING Westerners!

 

Lubbock High UIL Winter Invitational!
Lubbock High School is proud to host their annual UIL Winter Invitational Saturday January 28th.  This will be a third party test and all large and small schools are invited to attend.  To register your teams please visit the Joy of Tournaments website after January 11th at www.joyoftournaments.com.  For more information or assistance with registration please email Neoka Perez at nperez@lubbockisd.org.  We look forward to another great competition!
Lubbock High School Magnet Open House!
Attention incoming Lubbock High School Freshmen....the annual LHS Magnet Open House will be Monday, January 30, 2012 from 7-8:30 PM in the Lubbock High auditorium.  This is a fantastic opportunity to see a first hand showcase of the programs offered and to meet our amazing faculty.  Save the date on your calendars and plan on having a great time!
Westerner Swim Team to Compete at District!
The LISD District Swimming Championships will take place at 8:00am at the Pete Ragus Aquatic Center, Friday January 27th.  We have some amazing swimmers at Lubbock High so make plans to be there and GOOD LUCK WESTERNERS!
Annual Valen-Talent Show to Light Up the Stage!
The annual Valen-Talent show is upon us!  Applications are available on the front counter in the office. Auditions are planned for the afternoon of January 27. The show will take place on February 17th in in the Lubbock High Auditorium.  Bring it Lubbock High!
Westerner Union Dance Wants YOU!
If you are interested in auditioning for Westerner Union Dance Troupe, please pick up an audition packet this week. These packets will be available in the main office on Wednesday, February 1st. Please also plan to attend an informational meeting with a parent/guardian on Monday, February 6th at 6:00 PM. Should you have any questions, please see Mrs. Crosby in room 1006.
LHS Speech CX to Participate at District UIL Competition!
Lubbock High Will take their UIL Speech CX Team to District competition on February 2nd in Canyon.  If you see these students let them know you are cheering another OUTSTANDING LHS Academic Team!
This past weekend the Speech team won overall sweepstakes.  Way to go Westerners!

Have you been eyeing that certain someone? Send your crush a Crush! The Senior Council will be selling Strawberry Crush and Chocolate Kisses to be delivered on Valentine's day beginning on Monday. Place your orders before school in front of the Black and Gold store.  While you are there, why not get a Westerner T-Shirt too!
Westerner Soccer to Dominate in Amarillo!
The Westerner Boys Soccoer team will play at Amarillo Caprock January 27th at 7:00pm.  Lady Westerners will play Saturday, January 28th in Dumas!
LHS Basketball Clash: Meeting Coronado at Home!

Seniors: Time to Order Cap and Gowns!
Attention seniors:  If you have not ordered your cap and gown this is a reminder to do so before February 1st with Balfour.  Balfour will hold special office hours and be open from 12-6 pm on Tuesday, January 23rd thru Thursday, January 26th.  They will also be open Saturday, January 28th only from 10 am to 2 pm.  The Balfour office is located on Slide Road and Marsha Sharp Freeway.  Order now to avoid additional charges and to make sure you get all you want for graduation.  Late fees will be added to orders placed after February 1st.  Their phone number is 795-0525.
Senior Yearbook Ad Deadline is Approaching!
Seniors time is quickly running out on Senior ads.  The deadline has been extended to the end of February to place your orders.  For those seniors who have already placed their orders those orders need to be paid in full by the beginning of March or they will be pulled from the yearbook. Yearbooks are $75 at this time and will increase to $80 after March 15th.  Reserve your copy now with a down payment and this gets your book placed in lay away. For any further questions please see Mrs. Douglas in room 2005.
